UNSHAKEABLE to Host Fundraising Screening
Local Nonprofit UNSHAKEABLE to Host Fundraising Screening in Partnership with Local Indie Film House The Beverly Theater Thursday, October 19
Local nonprofit UNSHAKEABLE, with a mission to guide women recovering from various types of traumas, will host one of the year’s most awaited fundraisers, The Most Horrible Horror Movie Ever. The 7th annual screening of the campy horror film Ghosts of Goldfield will be held at a new location this year, at The Beverly Theater, 515 S. 6th St. on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Founded in 2016 by Debbie Isaacs, UNSHAKEABLE helps survivors of human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, addiction, and homelessness. The organization guides women to return to the workforce to achieve financial independence.
In 2007, Debbie produced Ghosts of Goldfield, filmed in Goldfield, Nevada and nearby Tonopah. Starring Kellan Lutz, Marnette Patterson, Mandy Amano, Scott Whyte, Chuck Zito, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Ashly Margaret Rae, the film is based on the actual haunted hotel in Goldfield, Nevada.
Debbie admits this movie is the most horrible horror movie ever, but it began her production career and though the script was terrible, the actors were terrific. Her friends and clients eventually convinced her that she should screen the movie as a fundraiser for UNSHAKEABLE, because, like the clients of UNSHAKEABLE, “your past doesn’t define you.” It has become an annual tradition of an entertaining night of poking fun at the movie, while raising money for a great organization.
“We tell our clients that their past does not define them, which applies to me. It was such a bad script, but I smile about it now, and it is a wonderful opportunity to have fun and raise money for UNSHAKEABLE,” says Debbie.
The evening, which includes light bites and an open bar, is open to the public, with a donation collected online or at the door. For more information, please visit UNSHAKEABLE.org. To RSVP for the event, please click here.
The Beverly Theater, created by The Rogers Foundation, presents uncommon cinematic, literary, and live experiences in downtown Las Vegas. Through The Beverly Theater, the foundation strives to elevate independent creative and artistic voices.
“We love movies -- but we especially love bad culty ones made by Vegas' filmmakers who are using their platform to make an impact,” said Kip Kelly, Founding Creative and CXO of the film house. “We’re excited to screen this movie made by a local for locals all in support of an important organization.”
